Rocket League teams recruit on rank and synergy. Mechanics get you noticed, but what rosters test in tryouts is how you rotate, communicate and play around two teammates.
Competitive playlists go Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Champion, Grand Champion and Supersonic Legend, with a separate rank for each playlist. Competitive teams mostly look at your 3v3 rank, since Standard is the tournament format.
Rocket League has no fixed roles, but players rotate through three positions:
Teams look for players who rotate cleanly and know when to challenge or fall back. If you have a preferred style (playmaker, defender, passer), say so on your profile.
Amateur teams scrim and play community tournaments and online cups; the most ambitious ones enter the open qualifiers of the official competitive circuit. An offer that mentions qualifiers usually expects regular practice several evenings a week.
Complete your gaming CV with your 3v3 and 2v2 ranks, your platform, your region, your languages and your availability. Apply to teams around your rank, and keep a few replays ready for tryouts. Team captains can also browse the Rocket League players looking for a team.

Casual teams often take Platinum to Diamond players. Competitive 3v3 rosters usually look for Champion, Grand Champion or Supersonic Legend players with tournament experience.
Both, but most competitive teams play Standard 3v3, the format of the main tournaments. Say on your profile which mode you play and your rank in each.
Rocket League has crossplay, so PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch players can team up. Put your platform and your region on your profile, because ping matters more than platform.
Usually a few private matches or scrims with the roster. Teams watch your rotations, your decision-making and how well you play with teammates, more than individual mechanics alone.
